Jadeveon Clowney, Gould not attending minicamp

Neither Jadeveon Clowney nor Robbie Gould have signed their franchise tags using their respective groups, and that’s not the one thing they have in common.
Clowney and Gould will not attend the mandatory minicamps for your Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, nfl expert picks Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
The two offseason workouts have been scheduled to kick off Tuesday, but don’t expect either player to function there.
Of both players to get the franchise tag in 2019, only Clowney, Gould and Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett have not signed a long-term deal, after or without being traded. While Jarrett has signed his tag and intends to attend Atlanta’s mandatory work out, Clowney and Gould have various ideas.

Clowney is aiming for a long deal in Houston, as would be the Texans. In April, then-Texans general manager Brian Gaine said that signing the Pro Bowl pass rusher into some long-term contract was »still the plan. » The problem is currently Gaine is no longer at the building, fired last week from nowhere. It is unclear whether Houston’s interim GM Chris Olsen gets the ability to strike a deal with Clowney while the Texans’ look for Gaine’s replacement continues.
The former first-overall pick already didn’t attend voluntary OTAs to make a statement on the subject. Texans coach Bill O’Brien said in May that while he does not have any idea when Clowney will go back to the staff, »I have every belief and hope that JD is working on his own and becoming ready for when he will decide to show up. »
Clowney is set to earn approximately $15.97 million on the tag, if and when he signs it. The deadline for the two sides to come to an agreement on a contract extension in July 15, approximately 1 month away and before the beginning of training camp.
Gould, on the other hand, doesn’t need a long-term solution with San Francisco. In fact, he needs the opportunity to leave the 49ers and asked a trade before the 2019 NFL Draft. The Niners have not acquiesced.
« We understand that he doesn’t need to live here long-term and he’s made that obvious to us, and we get that, » Niners coach Shanahan stated in April. « However, we have a franchise label and he’s that great of a kicker he’s worth franchising. So, unfortunately we know we’re not going to have him long-term here. I think that’s been pretty clear. No hard feelings about this »
The Niners won’t be going into minicamp kicker-less; San Francisco also employs fourth-year booter Jon Brown.
The 37-year-old Gould is place to make $4.97 million around the tag, but whether he signs it plays San Francisco at all in 2019 remains to be seen.
